How we count
Counts reflect bookings, not convictions. An arrest is not proof of guilt. Everyone is presumed innocent.
One booking counts once for each charge it carries, so a person booked on two charges shows up in two rows. The county total counts each booking once.
Left out, in every county: warrants and capias, probation violations, holds for other agencies, and public drinking or open-container charges. Bookings that list no fixed address (homeless or transient) are not counted.
Felony or misdemeanor: Orange County prints the level on its report. For Miami-Dade we read the level from the Florida statute the charge cites. For Lee County we use the court the charge is assigned to: circuit court for felonies, county court for misdemeanors. A dash means the level is not listed.
Charges are grouped by the Florida statute they cite, so the same charge reads the same in every county. A charge with no group keeps the county’s own wording.
Federal cases come from public federal court docket data (CourtListener / RECAP). It is a large sample, not an official count, and the newest days fill in as more filings arrive. We show charges and counts only, never names.
Counties listed are the ones that publish booking data in a form we can collect lawfully every day. Others publish only name searches or block automated access, so they are not shown.
