Florida Gun Owners Hub: Know the Law Before You Carry, Buy, or Travel

Florida is a state where many people own firearms, carry them, and keep them at home for protection and sport.

Most gun owners never see the inside of a courtroom.

The ones who do usually did not mean to break the law. They did not know about a place where carry is off limits. They missed a change in the rules. They defended themselves, and then had to explain it to a prosecutor.

This hub is built for responsible gun owners and Second Amendment supporters. It explains the rules in plain language. It has no politics. It shows where the lines are drawn so you can stay on the right side of them.

Florida's gun laws have changed in recent years, and they may change again. Several pages below tell you plainly where a rule is in flux. We would rather say "confirm the current law" than hand you a rule that is out of date.

How to use this hub

Pick the question you have today. Each page is short, written for a phone screen, and ends with a plain list of what to confirm before you rely on it.

These pages are general education. They are not legal advice about your situation.

Three habits that keep gun owners out of trouble

1. Check the law for the place you are standing. A rule that applies in a car may not apply in a school lot. A rule that applies in Florida may not apply one state north.

2. Know that the rules move. Florida changed its concealed-carry law in 2023. In 2025 and 2026, Florida appeals courts issued rulings on open carry and on carry by adults under 21. Do not rely on what a friend told you three years ago.

3. Know who to call. If you are arrested, being calm and quiet matters more than being right. Say you want a lawyer. Then call one.

Federal law sits on top of Florida law

A few rules come from federal law and apply everywhere in the country. They cover who may not possess a firearm at all, how items like suppressors are regulated, and how you may move a gun across state lines. A Florida rule does not erase a federal one.

Where a page touches federal law, it says so.

If you are facing a gun charge

An arrest does not mean a conviction. The State must prove every part of the charge beyond a reasonable doubt. A lawyer can look at how the stop happened, whether the search was lawful, and whether the State can prove what it says it can.

Do not talk it through with the police first.
