$705,000 JURY VERDICT Personal injury. Miami-Dade County, 2026. Future medical: $105,000. Past pain and suffering: $200,000. Future pain and suffering: $400,000. Dennis Gonzalez Law, P.A. Miami-Dade County.
What happened
This case went to trial in Miami-Dade County. A jury heard the evidence and decided what the injury was worth.
The jury awarded $705,000. It broke the award into three parts:
- $105,000 for future medical care
- $200,000 for past pain and suffering
- $400,000 for future pain and suffering

Why the insurer's offer was turned down
Before trial, the insurance company made an offer. The offer was low.
An insurer's first number is a business decision. It reflects what the company wants to pay. It does not always reflect what the harm is worth.
Accepting an offer ends the case. The client cannot come back later and ask for more if the pain lasts longer than expected, or if the medical care costs more than expected.
So we weighed the offer against the evidence and the client's future. We concluded that a jury should decide. We discussed that choice with the client, and the client made the decision.
Going to trial carries risk. A jury can award less than an offer. Nobody can promise an outcome, and we do not.
A verdict versus a settlement
A settlement is an agreement between the parties. Both sides give something up, the case ends, and the terms are often kept private.
A verdict is a decision by a jury of ordinary people. They hear the witnesses, see the evidence, and put a number on the harm.
Two differences matter:
- Who decides. In a settlement, the parties decide. In a verdict, the jury decides.
- Certainty. A settlement is certain once it is signed. A verdict can be appealed, and the process can take longer.
Neither path is right for every case. The right choice depends on the facts, the proof, the insurance coverage, and what the client needs.
