Judge's Biography

Enjoliqué Aytch Lett was sworn in as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Florida on September 17, 2024. She is assigned to the Miami Division. Prior to joining the judiciary, Judge Lett was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, P.A. in its Miami office, and immediately prior to that was a partner at Akerman LLP in its Fort Lauderdale and Miami offices. Her practice focused on product liability where she served as lead counsel in all aspects of mass tort and multi-district litigation, as well as represented high-profile clients in complex commercial litigation. Before returning to private practice, Judge Lett worked as a law clerk for the late Honorable Marcia G. Cooke in the Southern District of Florida. Judge Lett began her legal career as an associate at Nelson Mullins, LLP and then Greenberg Traurig, LLP in their Atlanta, Georgia offices. Communication

Counsel may contact chambers, including the courtroom deputy and/or the law clerks, about procedures specific to Judge Lett. Chambers will not answer questions regarding substantive matters pertaining to the case or procedures that the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and/or the Local Rules for the Southern District of Florida otherwise govern. Likewise, chambers will not provide advice on legal questions. Absent a true emergency, counsel of record shall not contact chambers to ask questions concerning the status of pending matters. When contacting chambers, please be ready to provide the case number and presiding Judge so that we may better assist you. Except for any confidential statements submitted pursuant to the Court’s Order Scheduling Settlement Conference, any communications via email should copy all counsel of record or any pro se parties, as applicable. Any proposed orders or scheduling matters can be communicated via email to Lett@flsd.uscourts.gov.

Electronic Equipment

Please refer to Administrative Order 2018-79 for the Court’s policy for bringing audio/visual equipment, mobile phones, and personal devices into the courtroom. Always check the Court’s website for any updates or changes to the Court’s general policy on that matter. Parties seeking to bring electronic equipment into court for use in a courtroom proceeding shall also comply with Administrative Order 2018-79. Motions to admit electronic equipment must be filed at least 72 hours in advance of the hearing or trial. It is strongly recommended that counsel test out the equipment in the courtroom in advance. To do so, counsel may contact chambers to schedule a test of the electronic equipment 24 hours in advance of the hearing or trial.

Discovery Procedures

This Court takes seriously its obligation under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 1 to “secure the just, speedy, and inexpensive determination of every action and proceeding." In cases where the presiding District Judge refers all pretrial discovery matters to Judge Lett, the Court will issue a standing discovery order with specific discovery procedures for use in the event of a discovery dispute. Written discovery motions are not permitted without leave of Court. The Court expects parties and their counsel to be professional and cooperative in all discovery matters.

Motion Practice-Next Generation Lawyers

Ordinarily, only one attorney for each party may argue at a hearing. However, the Court has a strong commitment to supporting the development of our next generation of attorneys and encourages the participation of less-experienced attorneys during court proceedings. Should a party advise the Court prior to the beginning of a hearing that an attorney with five (5) or fewer years of experience will be arguing a matter, the Court will permit multiple attorneys to argue on that party’s behalf.
